Deluxe Sock Weight HIGH TWIST 85% Superwash Extrafine Merino 15% nylon 1 kg Cone

Ref: MERNYHTWISTCONE

Please note - as of November 2021 we have reverted to our original spinner for this base.

"Deluxe" Sock Weight yarn with 2 plies and a high twist

85% Superwash Extrafine Merino (19.5 micron) 15% Nylon Yarn (2/7.2Nm)

Two plies are twisted tightly together to produce a very soft and springy yarn. This yarn is slightly plumper than our original Deluxe sock yarn (which has 4 plies) and just as soft. The 2 plies make the yarn slightly bumpy which helps the strands of yarn hold together against each other making it great for colourwork and lace work. The thicker strands also help speckles pop even more.

The main factor determining the quality of merino wool is its softness which depends upon the fineness of the fibres. We use extrafine merino (19.5 microns) which is some of the finest commercially available for hand dyers.

The extrafine merino wool makes this yarn luxuriously soft and bouncy for next to skin comfort. A little nylon is added for extra durabilty.

This yarn is so versatile and can be used for any next to skin project (scarves, jumpers etc) as well as items where a little more durability is required such as socks and gloves.

Approx. 3600m per cone

Please note that the cones are an intermediate stage in the spinning process and can vary in weight (and length) to be under or over 1kg. They are intended to be spliced or knotted together to form longer lengths from which specific weights of hanks are reeled. The discount on the cones accounts for this discrepancy.
